5 Possible Lab Workbench Frames

Choosing the right bench frame is just as important as selecting the ideal worktop. Waldner offers a variety of frames designed to adapt laboratory benches to your specific needs. Choose from five versions, each of which can be combined with the appropriate worktop to meet your exact requirements.

H-frames

Our H-frames are highly stable structures, making them ideal as support for work surfaces or storage areas. A key advantage of this lab bench frame is its flexibility—underbench cabinets can be added as needed, independent of grid dimensions. They provide the ideal substructure for various laboratory tasks, especially when working with heavier analytical instruments and setups.

They can be individually integrated, suspended, or repositioned laterally. Additionally, the bench frame is available in various widths, depths, and heights, allowing laboratory benches to be tailored to specific requirements.

C-frames

The C-leg allows base cabinets to be added independently of a fixed grid as required, while laboratory cabinets can be easily positioned underneath. They can be individually slid in, suspended, or flexibly shifted sideways, providing greater design freedom. C-frames are highly stable and can support up to 200 kg, making them an excellent substructure for various laboratory tasks.

Their design provides ample legroom due to the positioning of the bench legs, and laboratory cabinets can be easily placed underneath. C-frames are available in various dimensions to suit different needs.

Cantilever frames

Cantilever frames are perfect for installation on a service spine or wall. Their minimalist design provides maximum legroom, making them suitable for use as both a worktop and a storage table. Underbench cabinets can be easily added, and the frame dimensions can be adjusted to match the required bench size.

Load-bearing underbench units

Our load-bearing underbench units offer a dual benefit, serving as both a bench frame and a storage solution in the laboratory. This setup combines two underbench cabinets with a worktop of the customer’s choice, ensuring exceptional stability and suitability for all types of laboratory work. Both the underbench units and worktops are available in a variety of dimensions to meet specific needs.

Mobile tables

Our mobile bench frames on castors offer maximum flexibility in the laboratory. Equipped with four high-quality heavy-duty castors, two of which can be locked, they can be easily moved to the desired location and used as a storage area or work surface.

This movable support structure creates new possibilities for dynamic laboratory setups. Available in various dimensions and heights, these flexible benches can also be fitted with optional shelves and underbench units.

9 Material Options for Waldner Lab Bench Worktops

All Waldner laboratory workbench designs can be fitted with your choice of worktop. We offer nine different materials, each with unique benefits tailored to specific laboratory applications. Most worktops are available in flat or raised-edge configurations.

Melamine resin facing

Laboratory benches with melamine resin facings offer flat, robust, and easy-to-clean surfaces with a timeless, linear appearance. Due to moisture-sensitive joints and moderate chemical resistance, they are best suited for dry areas

Note: Acids with concentrations above 10%, such as concentrated hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and heated sulfuric acid, can irreparably damage the material.

Polypropylene

Seamless polypropylene worktops are ultra-flat, extremely lightweight, and highly resistant to acids, alkalis, and solvents. As a result, they are commonly used in environments where exceptional chemical resistance is essential. These worktops can also accommodate processes involving hydrofluoric acid. However, they are sensitive to heat, and their soft surface is prone to scratches.

Certain substances, such as hydrocarbons, citric acid, oxalic acid, carbon tetrachloride, and diesel oil, pose a risk to this material. Furthermore, exposure to ozone, concentrated nitric acid, chloroform, petrol, or benzene can cause irreversible damage to the polypropylene surface.

Solid (grade) laminate

Solid-grade laminate worktops feature a moisture-resistant, smooth surface, making them ideal for laboratory benches exposed to moderate wear and tear in both dry and wet environments, such as physics laboratories.

However, these worktops should not come into contact with acids exceeding a 10% concentration, as they can damage the material. In particular, concentrated hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and heated sulfuric acid will cause irreversible damage.

Solid (grade) laminate with an EBC surface

Solid-grade laminate worktops with a special EBC surface are ideal for use in chemical, microbiological, and genetic engineering laboratories. The electron beam-cured (EBC) surface provides antibacterial properties, moisture resistance, a flat finish, and high chemical resistance.

However, acids with concentrations above 10% can damage the material. In particular, concentrated hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and heated sulfuric acid will cause irreversible damage.

Epoxy

Our epoxy lab bench worktop is an ultra-versatile surface designed to withstand both chemical and mechanical wear and tear. It is seamless, smooth, and highly durable, making it ideal for all types of laboratory work benches. However, its surface is sensitive to scratches and concentrated acids.

To prevent damage, avoid contact with various solvents and diluted acids. Hydrofluoric acid and concentrated, heated mineral acids can cause irreversible damage to the worktop.

Stainless steel

Their resistance to solvents, moisture, and temperature, combined with a seamless design, makes stainless-steel worktops ideal for biology, microbiology, pharmaceutical, and pathology laboratories, as well as radioisotope areas. The material's properties allow for easy decontamination, enabling a wide range of workflows and processes without compromising the worktop.

However, caution is required when using cadmium, lactic acid, and oxalic acid, as these substances can damage the surface. Additionally, keep chlorine- and bromine-containing compounds, as well as formic acid and sulfuric acid, away from stainless steel worktops.

Stoneware

A stoneware worktop is ideal for laboratories in which laboratory benches are exposed to the most severe chemical and mechanical conditions. The surface is extremely robust and resistant to a wide range of chemical substances. Stoneware worktops can only be damaged by hydrofluoric acid.

Slight unevenness on the surface can be caused by the firing process during production of the worktop. These worktops also have limited robustness when exposed to thermodynamic stress.

Stoneware-composite worktop

Stoneware-composite worktops also perfectly withstand chemical and mechanical wear and tear. They are also resistant to chemicals (with the exception of hydrofluoric acid) and have the added advantage of an extremely flat surface. As a result, these laboratory work benches are extremely versatile. Nonetheless, these worktops have only limited capacity to withstand thermodynamic loading.

Glass

Glass is a smooth material capable of withstanding the most severe exposure to chemicals. It is therefore suitable for all versions of laboratory benches that are exposed to a wide range of chemicals. The surface can only be irreparably damaged by hydrofluoric acid. The nature of the material also makes the corners and edges of the worktop sensitive to impacts.
