Picea Biosolutions is a young startup that develops high-performance biomechanical solutions for sustainable transformation, particularly in the food and circular economy sectors. The company focuses on novel proteins and enzymes that enable innovative biotechnological processes. From the very beginning, Picea has relied on Waldner’s expertise to equip its research laboratories.
2022, Waldner completed the setup of Picea’s first two small lab rooms at the company’s former location. The Waldner xpress program was used, which enables particularly rapid implementation. In close coordination with the startup, a functional lab environment was created in a very short time.
The precise implementation, the high quality of the laboratory furniture, and the understanding of the young company’s specific requirements left a lasting impression on the Picea team. The positive experiences from this first project were a decisive factor in jointly realizing the next major development step as well.
In 2025, Picea once again commissioned Waldner to furnish the new, approximately 500-square-meter laboratory in the new flow1986 premises in the heart of Offenburg. The biotechnology research laboratory includes areas for molecular biology research, enzyme and protein applications, as well as fermentation and bioprocess development. The facility is complemented by an S1 laboratory, including a cleanroom area.
This new project underscores the trust that has grown from our previous collaboration.
The building’s low ceiling height posed a challenge for the laboratory design. Through compact laboratory furniture, intelligent utility routing, and close coordination among all trades, we succeeded in overcoming these limitations and creating a fully functional, high-performance laboratory environment.
Despite challenging conditions, the result is an airy, open laboratory with clear structures, generous workspaces, and sufficient flexibility for future growth. The new laboratory layout is deliberately designed to evolve alongside Picea’s requirements and dynamic development.
Throughout all phases, the collaboration was characterized by open, fair communication and cooperation on equal terms. Requirements were communicated transparently very early in the project planning phase, and solutions were developed jointly.
