DOSOMAT Packaging Solutions
As part of the comprehensive technological and strategic reorientation of the Unilever plant in Auerbach, production was systematically refocused on snack products and mini meals. To supply the entire European market from Saxony with maximum efficiency and in accordance with the highest quality standards, Unilever invested in a bespoke packaging solution.
The company commissioned the packaging specialists at WALDNER to design, manufacture and integrate a turnkey, high-performance Snackpot machine.
The on-site process engineering and structural requirements called for the project engineers to devise well-thought-out detailed solutions:
WALDNER implemented a plant concept for Unilever that is unique in terms of its scale. The turnkey line connects the primary filling plant directly to two synchronised final packaging lines.
To make optimum use of the limited floor space in the existing hall, WALDNER designed a highly efficient machine cluster comprising three lines, which extends architecturally across two storeys. At the heart of the Snackpot packaging machine is an extremely high-performance dosing system that continuously fills twelve snack pots in parallel per cycle.
Thanks to this highly parallel process control, the plant achieves a stable production capacity of approximately 480 pots per minute and is regarded as the most powerful solution on the market.
The following system overview details the project-specific design of the implemented plant network:
Integrated turnkey machine cluster
1× high-capacity filling line, 2× final packaging lines
Vertical configuration, integrated across two storeys
Approx. 480 snack cups per minute
Parallel 12-channel simultaneous filling
Dry raw materials, chunky products (pasta, rice)
Collision-free integration into existing column-based architecture
A key factor in the success of this major project was the seamless and transparent coordination of all technical details between the Unilever and WALDNER project teams. From the pre-sales stage through the entire course of the project right up to the final technical handover, the expertise of both partners complemented each other seamlessly.
“Both Unilever and Waldner stuck to our previous agreements, which meant we were able to bring the project to fruition within the desired timeframe.”
Sven Seidel, Production ManagerDespite the limited space available when the machinery was being installed, all agreed deadlines and arrangements were adhered to precisely. As a result, the project was completed exactly on schedule: the plant produced its first pallet of Snackpots at the Auerbach site right on time in the summer of 2025.
“It all went wonderfully from start to finish, the collaboration was brilliant.”
